Dr. Alan L. HymowitzFor Dr. Alan L. Hymowitz, eyeglasses and contact lenses are not the end of an office visit – they are the start of a successful doctor-patient relationship. Over the past 25 years, he has developed a large group of satisfied patients -- including the most extensive Hispanic bilingual optometry practice in Atlanta – by dealing with eyes but most importantly, by caring for people.

Dr. Hymowitz is highly experienced in treating and managing ocular diseases including cataracts, dry eye syndrome, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, keratoconnus, and ocular trauma. He is especially familiar with contact lenses for “hard to fit” patients.

And he also partners with leading area eye surgeons in co-managing patients before and after such procedures as lasik, photorefractive keratotomy (PRK), multifocal implants, pterygium removal, and corneal transplants.

Dr. Hymowitz receiving the 2010 Georgia Lions Lighthouse Beacon of Hope Award.

Beacon of Hope AwardWhen not caring for his patients in Atlanta, Dr. Hymowitz is often providing quality eye care as part of mission trips with the OneSight Foundation. He has traveled to such locations as Laos, Cambodia, Tunisia, and Bolivia – and closer to home, he is active in local volunteer projects that provide free vision care to Atlanta’s underprivileged schoolchildren. Dr. Hymowitz was the first optometrist to receive the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation Beacon of Hope award in 2010 for all of his volunteer humanitarian efforts.

Dr. Hymowitz finds time for hobbies that range from the arts to sports – for example, from playing piano and singing in community choirs to snowboarding and playing tennis.

He earned his undergraduate degree in biology and music from the State University of New York (SUNY) and his doctor of optometry from the SUNY College of Optometry. He practiced in New Orleans for seven years before moving to Atlanta in 1988.

Most recently, Dr. Hymowitz’s Lenox Eye Associates practice was located in Lenox Mall. Now he is proud and excited to be part of the vibrant Brookhaven community, providing exceptional eye care at EyeHaven.
